Much of the Coast of South Devon and Dorset is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are also known as Heritage Coasts. These were established in the 1970s to help prevent urban development destroying what remained of these wonderful areas. Heritage Coasts now account for 33% of the coastline of England and Wales.

The National Trust's Enterprise Neptune project has similar aims.

A CDROM version of the PhotoTour with over 540 high-quality photos of larger size is available from the Association's shop.
