Polbream Cove Lizard
photo

Lizard Point (called Lizard Head on older maps) lies to the west of the Lizard headland. Here, the now-abandoned lifeboat station can be seen. The Lizard station was opened in 1909 but in 1961 it was relocated to the eastern side of the Lizard at Kilcobbern Cove. This makes launching easier in bad weather.

The lighthouse is now automatically operated. Opened in 1752, the present buildings date from 1903. It has one of the most powerful lights in the world at 4 million candle power. The lighthouse can be visited most afternoons.

A CDROM version of the PhotoTour with over 540 high-quality photos of larger size is available from the Association's shop.
