Minack Theatre West Penwith

Just to the west of the small village of Porthcurno is the Minack open air Theatre, which is superbly positioned high on the cliffs. Sir John Betjeman said of the Minack:
``I know no better sited theatre, nature has made the Minack Theatre famed.''

The Greek-style theatre was inaugurated in 1932 and consists of a natural amphitheatre of sloping cliff in which ridges have been cut to form stone and grass seating. The stage has a smooth paved floor, pillars in the Grecian style and behind the ever-changing sea is the perfect back-drop. A wide range of plays are performed from Easter to October. If you go to one of the evening performances in the spring or autumn, take blankets and a hot drink! It's well worth a visit.

A CDROM version of the PhotoTour with over 540 high-quality photos of larger size is available from the Association's shop.
