In 1988 Newlyn had the largest value catch of any of English fishing ports. With financial help from the European Union, a large fish market has been built and daily auctions are held at 7.30am. Most of the catch goes back to sea on the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry, to be eaten on the Continent.
