At Osmington Mills the South West Coast Path splits into two routes;

• the true coast path continues to Redcliff Point and on into Weymouth. Then continues along The Fleet behind Chesil Beach, passing through Langton Herring and Abbotsbury to meet the South Dorset Ridgeway at West Bexington.
• the South Dorset Ridgeway avoids Weymouth and takes the walker via Osmington, White Horse Hill, Bincombe village, Bincombe Down, Bronkham Hill and passing to the north of Abbotsbury, rejoining the coast route at West Bexington.

The walker who chooses the coastal path has the option of walking round the Isle of Portland, adding an extra 14 miles (22Km).
