Penzance is a busy town and the last major conurbation before Land's End. It is also the end of the railway from London.

From South Pier a ferry sails for the Isles of Scilly.

Near to Albert Pier is the tourist information centre. You can obtain a walker's guide to the town called the Penzance Town Trail and then spend a happy few hours exploring.

The town was destroyed by the Spanish in the raid of 1595. Today most of the buildings are only about 200 years old. The elegant Market House (now a bank) and the raised pavement (called The Terrace) is one of the best townscapes in Cornwall.

In front of the Market House is a statue of Penzance's most famous son--Sir Humphry Davy--inventor of the Davy Safety Lamp which allowed coal miners to use candles without causing explosions from methane gas.

A CDROM version of the PhotoTour with over 540 high-quality photos of larger size is available from the Association's shop.
