Porthcurno is land-fall for several telegraph cables for the Cable and Wireless company.
The beach is mainly coarse shell sand and bathing is very dangerous owing to strong currents. The eastern end of the beach is designated as a naturists' area.
The sea along this part of the coast has the most stunning colour.
