Here at West Bexington the South West Coast Path splits into two routes;
- the true coast path continues along Chesil Beach, then inland to Abbotsbury, Langton Herring and at Rodden Hive joining the east bank of the Fleet to Wyke Regis. After Weymouth it passes Redcliff Point and then re-joins the inland route at Osmington Mills. It is also possible for the fit walker to continue directly to Wyke Regis along the beach. But BE WARNED ;
- There is no way to get off the beach until you reach Wyke Regis
- Walking the beach is very strenuous
- If live firing is taking place on the Army range at Tidmoor Point, you will not be permitted to pass, forcing a return along the beach.
- Most of Chesil Beach is a designated nature reserve and is out-of-bounds between 1st May and 31st August each year while birds are nesting.
The walker who chooses the coastal path has the option of walking round the Isle of Portland, adding an extra 14 miles (22Km).
