Ringstead Bay Dorset
photo

WhiteNothe (sometimes pronounced and spelled locally as White Nose) is where the east-bound walker encounters the chalk cliffs of Dorset and a marked change in scenery, flora and fauna.

Just inland from Ringstead Bay lies the remains of the deserted medieval Ringstead village. According to local legend French pirates burnt the village to the ground, killed the men and carried off the women and children. However it is more likely that either the Black Death or economic reasons are to blame.

A CDROM version of the PhotoTour with over 540 high-quality photos of larger size is available from the Association's shop.
